TipDroid
The usefulness of a smartphone depends on what apps you have on it, otherwise it’s just another cellphone. It can be hard to find really good and useful, well thought of and designed apps out there. But when you do, it’s worth sharing them for others to enjoy. That is why I started my blog TipDroid where I share the Android Apps I found to be worth mentioning, complete with QR scan codes so you can easily find the app mentioned on the Market.
RandomCDCover.com
I got the idea to create RandomCDCover.com by a Facebook post that showed people how to create a random CD cover by getting an image from Flickr, a word from Wikipedia and a sentence from another source. Knowing how many infinite combinations one could make and how we tend to link the random words with the visuals we see, I decided to create randomcdcover.com. It was created in Flash and retrieves a random image from Image*After, a random CD cover design and random words from a local database I created. It also picks a random image overlay to make the covers look more artistic. The covers can be downloaded (without the CD case design) and can be shared on Facebook or as a link. Random generated covers are always added to the public gallery while custom generated covers are asked if they want to add it to the public gallery.
Ringers Herinneringen & Sollicitatie Test
The Ringers project consists of two interactive touch-screen applications. These application are currently in use in ‘Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar’.
One is the “Ringers Herinneringen” (memories). This interactive touch-screen application presents an interface where the user can view written and video-recorded interviews of people who used to work at Ringers chocolate factory. The user can also record their own memory by typing and attaching a photo (with the webcam) or recording a video. All new entries can be screened and edited using an admin tool.
The second project is “Ringers Sollicitatie Test” (application test) where a user can get a recommendation on where in the factory they could work based on a few questions. You can also print out a label (using a Dymo label writer) of the function that was recommended for you.
Both applications were made in Macromedia Director.
ZIN Nationaal Herexamen
ZIN Herexamen is an online campaign to give away free samples of the ZIN magazine by playing an online braintraining game and subscribing for the free sample. Users who have all 10 game questions correct will have a place in the highscore and a chance to win a prize. Users are also able to share their results on Facebook, Twitter and Hyves.
I created the PHP and MySQL backend to save entered user information, highscores and free sample requests. It is important to prevent cheating since this is an online game where the user with the highest score (time left) can win a prize. I have implemented a self made data encryption from php to flash and back so that the exercise questions that are sent from the database cannot be seen using tools like Firebug and Fiddler. I have also created a method using the encryption to prevent users from tampering with the data sent from flash to the backend. The game is also able to detect if someone is using a time slowdown tool to try and slow down the clock in flash games.
Also added social media sharing of the user’s score and highscore position to Facebook, Twitter and Hyves.
Pharm Invest Groep
Converted the existing Photoshop design into a working PHP based website. The source-code of the website had to be easily maintainable if one needed to add or remove pharmacies or text. The website is made with a combination of PHP, CSS and Javascript.
TN VoordeelVouchers
TNVoordeelVouchers.nl is a portfolio website for TN VoordeelVouchers. They can help clients to create discount vouchers for various items and attractions.
I recreated the entire website in Flash AS3 using Gaia Framework and also made a very easy to use CMS using PHP and mySQL. The design of the site is mainly based on elements of the original flash website. I have made some slight improvements on the design by adding slight gradients and outlines.
Neurocampus: Neuromysterie 10
Neuromysterie 10 is the tenth in the series of Neurocampus Neuromysterie and is based on the flash framework I created for the previous Neuromysterie 9.
Neuromysterie is a series of 6 brain training games themed with a story and environment. Once you pass all six brain training tests, you are awarded with a place in the hall of fame and a wallpaper based on this Neuromysterie. The first game is always a bonus game where you can win a joker that you can use later in any of the following 5 games to make things easier.
I programmed the pond ripple game (scene 2) and the maze game (scene 5). The programming was done in Actionscript 3.
My Website: MyChartedStuff.com
MyChartedStuff.com is a personal project that started out as an offline application named "Cyber-D’s Data Charter" and evolved into a free online service.
Back in 2007 I created a piece of software named "Cyber-D’s Data Charter". The purpose of this program was to be able to quickly keep track of and visualize my finances and energy usage. I found this tool to be very useful in keeping track of my numbers but found it a major drawback that the data was stored locally on my computer. Thus I decided to recreate the concept into a website for myself and everyone who wishes to make use of it for free.
I learned a great deal about setting up database structures, creating registration and confirmation procedures, security, PHP, MySQL and Javascript together with WordPress. The design mainly comes from a WordPress template plus some things I have added myself like the logo, chart image, social network sharing and form field colors. The chart itself I made fully in flash and has some neat features. The buildup of every element is animated, the chart scales automatically based on the amount of data (in days, months or years), it can calculate the average and current rate of the chart line and even give you an estimate dates (based on the average and current rate) when your target amount will be reached. Anyone can register for free and add as many charts as they want. Terminating their account will result in having all their data wiped.
Kennisnet: Slimme Rik
Slimme Rik is a series of 6 (Neurocampus) brain training games on the website of Kennisnet. The games are targeted to school students between the ages of 12 and 13. Every week there is a ‘game of the week’ where students can compete against each other and other schools to get into the highscore. The weeks highest scoring student wins a prize.
The application consists of a flash front-end and a PHP and MySQL database backend. The game score results had to be encrypted and sent to the back-end to be verified that the data has not been tampered with to prevent cheaters. There is also a usage tracking system to track unique visitors, games played, what games are played and when.
I programmed the PHP and MySQL back-end with data encryption, statistics and some of the flash games.
My Blog: Flash Actionscript Tips
Flash Actionscript Tips is a blog I started in October 2010. Sometimes it can take a while to figure out some problems I run into as a Flash Developer. I usually search online to see if someone else bumped into the same problem and what the solution was. It is thanks to the forums and blogs where I found the answer that I (and many other Flash Developers out there) found the answer to the problem. Thus I started this blog mainly for myself as an online notebook. But because it is publicly available, others may also find the solution they are looking for on my blog and benefit from my notes.
